What Are GLP-1 Weight Management Injections?

GLP-1 weight management injections are prescription therapies that may be incorporated into a medically-supervised weight management program for eligible patients. GLP-1, or glucagon-like peptide-1, is a hormone naturally produced in the body that plays an important role in appetite signaling and metabolic regulation. After food intake, this hormone communicates feelings of satiety, supports healthy blood sugar balance, and influences how quickly the stomach empties. Medications that act on GLP-1 receptors are designed to enhance these natural processes in a controlled, therapeutic way.

When prescribed as part of a physician-guided program, GLP-1–based treatments may encourage patients to better manage appetite and support metabolic health over time. However, they are not suitable for everyone, which is why careful screening and individualized planning are essential.

Is Medically-Supervised Weight Management Right for You?

Medically-supervised weight management may be an appropriate option for patients who have found limited success with diet and exercise alone and who meet certain health-related criteria. These programs can also be ideal for patients whose weight may be contributing to broader medical concerns, and eligibility is determined through a comprehensive evaluation rather than a one-size-fits-all checklist.

During your in-office consultation, our Nurse Practitioner will review factors such as body composition, health history, and the presence of any weight-related conditions that could influence treatment planning. Just as importantly, she will assess whether prescription-based therapies may be safe and appropriate based on your medical profile.

Because these treatments are not suitable for everyone, certain health conditions or life circumstances may exclude some patients from participation. For this reason, recommendations are made carefully and may be adjusted over time as your body responds to therapy.

What Does the Medically-Supervised Weight Management Process Entail?

Weight management is not a one-size-fits-all process. For this reason, Ana and the rest of our team will personalize the entire process to suit your needs.

Required Consultation and Baseline Evaluation

All patients interested in medical weight management are required to begin with an in-office consultation. During this visit, Ana will review your health history and evaluate factors that may influence treatment selection.

As part of this initial assessment, baseline laboratory testing is performed to establish a clear picture of your metabolic health. These labs can guide treatment decisions and provide a reference point for tracking progress over time. Completing this step before starting therapy allows us to prioritize patient safety and customize each program with greater precision.

In-House Lab Monitoring and Ongoing Oversight

Unlike many weight-loss programs that offer limited follow-up, Plastic Surgery Group of Atlanta places a strong emphasis on ongoing medical oversight. Laboratory testing is completed in-house, which allows our team to efficiently monitor patient response and adjust treatment plans as needed. Throughout the program, patients will return for scheduled follow-up visits and lab evaluations.

GLP-1 Medication Administration

When GLP-1–based therapy is included in a physician-supervised weight management plan, administration is guided closely by our Nurse Practitioner. Injectable medications are typically self-administered at home following clear, provider-directed instructions, with education provided to help patients feel confident using the medication correctly.

Dosing schedules are individualized and may be adjusted over time based on how the body responds to treatment. Patients are monitored regularly through follow-up visits and laboratory evaluation, allowing us to assess progress and make thoughtful modifications when appropriate.

A Focus on Safety and Long-Term Success

Our medically-supervised programs are built around accountability and patient education. Weight management is a dynamic process, and success often depends on consistent follow-up and open communication between patient and provider.

By requiring regular check-ins and maintaining medical oversight throughout treatment, we aim to help patients stay informed and engaged in their progress. Our goal is not rapid or unsustainable weight loss, but rather a thoughtful approach that supports overall health and lasting results.

A Personalized, Medical Approach to Weight Management

At Plastic Surgery Group of Atlanta, our weight management programs reflect the same standard of care found across all of our services: personalized treatment and patient-centered support. If you are interested in exploring medically-supervised weight management, we invite you to schedule an in-office consultation with our Nurse Practitioner.
