Mastopexy, or a breast lift, is a body contouring procedure that recontours the breasts by reducing loose skin and pulling tight the surrounding tissue to result in a more youthful and healthier appearance. This cosmetic breast surgery is reserved for women who have lost breast fullness and shape and who have breast sagging due to breastfeeding, weight loss, aging, or gravity. Outstanding advancements in breast lift surgery have made this procedure so effective that new stats released by the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons) reveal an approximate 70% increase in demand since 2000. Both plastic surgeons in Atlanta, GA, board certified surgeon, Dr. Alexandra Hart and double board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. John P. Connors offers this cosmetic breast surgery at PSGA - Plastic Surgery Group of Atlanta. By utilizing the latest surgical techniques, Dr. Connors and Dr. Hart can choose the correct procedure depending on the level of sag present as well as the desired result.

"From the consultation up to my actual surgery DR.CONNORS was the BEST. First, he made me extremely comfortable expressing what I didn’t like about my breast & my desired look. I really appreciate him. I had a breast lift because mine were small and flappy after two kids. I almost thought I would need a small implant but I didn’t . He lifted them & they are perfect !!!!"

"Saline breast implant removal, Silicone replacement with lift - In 2006 I received Saline breast implants over the muscle. Huge mistake. I was genetically prone to have small sagging breast and Saline implants over the muscle just made it 10x worse over the last decade, not to mention child birth, breastfeeding and weight loss. Here are pictures of my breast to date Updated on 1 Dec 2018: Need a breast lift and implant exchange after 12 years, 1 child and weight loss. I had several consultations over the last 3 years. I knew it would be tuff but patience is needed when you want to achieve the best results! I decided on Dr. Conners in Atlanta, GA Updated on 8 Dec 2018: I had my saline implants deflated two weeks prior to my surgery date. I was told that a lot of Dr.’s do this in the hope of helping the muscles to contract, if you had previous implants over the muscles and want to move the replacement implants under the muscle. Updated on 13 Dec 2018: ’m here at Dr. Conner’s office. I arrived at 9:00 for prepping! Anxious, nervous and excited. I just hope everything goes as expected. Ie heard Dr. Conners is excellent for breast in Atlanta, but everyone is different. Updated on 13 Dec 2018: Today is day one post surgery. Very sore and sleepy but not in extreme or unbearable pain as I expected. Dr. Conners called me personally last night to make sure I was ok. The nurse called me this morning, again just checking on me. Staff is truly amazing and helpful. They seem genuinely concerned which is nice. I’ll keep these updates coming! Btw I’m still extremely swollen but breast look amazing! I have drains that when won’t be removed for a week. Updated on 16 Dec 2018: I couldn’t help it anymore. I took a bath today. Although I had been sponge bathing I felt like it wasn’t enough! I sat in the bath tub with waist high water. I even took my bra off and washed my back, well with help of course, I can’t actually do it. Anyway, not in any pain but I am uncomfortable especially when it’s time to sleep. I want to sleep on my side or my stomach. I haven’t taken the Percocet in 2 days! I’m happy about that too. Don’t want to be dependent on that. When it gets too uncomfortable I take the Lyrica and or the muscle relaxer to sleep. Ready to remove the drains but they are still consistently draining, which is also good. Here a few pictures I took today! These babies are perked up. I know there is still a lot of swelling and naturally they will fall but I’m so excited and extremely happy with my results. Just keeping my fingers crossed for my nipple review... Updated on 22 Dec 2018: I went to Dr. Conner’s office on Thursday for my first post op. Everything looks and feels great. I had the drains removed and I got to see everything! I’m so happy with my results so far. I listen and comply with everything they tell me. My nipples looked so good. I still have stitching and scars of course. They gave me more temporary bandage to leave on until next week. I didn’t take pictures when they removed everything but so far here is my progress... I wish I would have went a little bigger. But that’s just me being vain. Updated on 3 Apr 2019: I am extremely happy with my results. I just had another follow up and I’m scheduled to see the Dr. again in 3 months. I am so glad I went with Dr. Connors. My scars are visible but not horrible. I don’t feel like I’ve been butchered. I honestly haven’t used any scar cream or patches although I know I should. My nipples are still healing as well. Extremely happy with my results."

"Great personality, tremendously professional as well as knowledgable in his area of expertise, makes you feel completely comfortable and spends as much time and individual attention as needed to ensure he has thoroughly answered any & all of your questions/concerns and that he understands the end result that each patient most desires. Entire staff is extremely friendly and always willing to help in anyway possible. POST OP REVIEW:I am now two weeks post-op from a 7.5 hour procedure in which I had smart lipo, a breast lift, and an extended tummy tuck. I do not take narcotic medications but went into this procedure anxiously knowing I might be forced to change my position on this in order to keep my pain at a level that was tolerable enough to simultaneously allow my body to heal. Due to the lengthy amount of time I was scheduled to be under general anesthesia, my family persuaded me to undergo the surgery at Northside in Alpharetta and stay overnight to be monitored by the medical staff at this facility. Dr. Connors did an AMAZING job and I do not have words to express how pleased I am with him and his level of skill and expertise. Not only am i starting to see unbelievable results, I only had to be administered pain medication while at Northside during the first 24 hours following my surgery!!! AMAZING Dr. Connors is fortunate enough to have a PA on staff by the name of Maggie who assists him in his surgeries. Since my procedure I have really gotten to know Maggie mainly because I am a High Maintenance patient and the degree to which I worry can be absolutely exhausting! Maggie has been so kind to me and really my main support system since the procedure. She cares about her patients so deeply and makes herself available at all hours to patiently answer or address any problems or fears they may be having. Maggie has earned my upmost respect and trust because my relationship with her has been unlike any other with a medical professional. She may be a PA but in my opinion her level of genuine concern makes her more qualified than any doctor Ive ever met and I would certainly value her opinion over any other physicians that I see. I know the feeling CANNOT be mutual but when my recovery is over and I do not have to any further post op visit with her I will feel like I’ve lost a friend. Absolutely the BEST!!!!"
You may visit Plastic Surgery Group of Atlanta wanting implants only; however, after a private assessment, you may realize that a breast lift is better. This is dependent on the level of sag that is shown. Breasts that point downward generally need skin removal and tightening surgery to correct skin irregularities and lift the breasts to a higher position. If your nipples point downward and your breasts sag significantly below the crease line, a surgical lift can dramatically help their appearance. If you are contemplating a breast lift, you need to be physically healthy and at a stable weight.
how is a breast lift performed?
The type of incision used during a breast lift procedure will vary depending on the degree of lift and whether implants will be placed during the surgery. If implants are a part of the procedure, whether silicone or saline, they are placed under the pectoralis muscle. This method provides additional support and helps to keep the breasts in a higher position for a longer period of time. In situations where a larger implant is desired, a supportive tissue matrix may be used as a sling to hold the implants in place.
breast lift Incision Types
The degree of lift will determine how many incisions are needed. Once the incisions are made, excess skin and tissue are removed and the nipple and areola are repositioned for a natural placement. The sutures during this procedure are placed deep in the breast wall to secure and hold the breast up firmly. There are several incision placements to consider:
Around the curvature of the areola (the tissue immediately surrounding the nipple)
Vertically on the bottom of the areola, down to the crease under the breast
Horizontally beneath the breast following the natural crease
Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia and is considered an outpatient procedure. Operative time in most cases is between 1-2 hours. Recovery following a breast lift will vary depending on whether it was a stand-alone surgery or in conjunction with another body-contouring procedure. Most patients are able to resume their normal work schedules within a few days. Exercise will be a gradual process. Most women are able to resume their normal routines within 6-8 weeks. This includes running and weight training.
Breast augmentation surgery with implants will help with size, but it will not help women if their breasts sag or droop downward past a certain point. Some doctors may use implants to help with sagging. With this approach, the immediate results may look better, but the additional weight causes the breasts to sag further. Some women find a breast lift is the only procedure they need to obtain the fullness they desire and determine implants aren’t necessary. During the consultation, we will discuss whether a breast lift, breast augmentation, or a combination of both will attain the best results.
does a breast lift cause Scarring?
There is no way to avoid making the necessary incisions to complete a breast lift procedure. Therefore, some scarring will result from this procedure. Every effort is made during surgery to minimize scarring. Most women feel that the physical results following a breast lift procedure are worth the scars left behind. During the consultation, we will provide detailed post-operative scar care instructions.
will my nipples be moved?
During a breast lift procedure, the nipple and areola will be placed in a location on the breast that is natural and proportionate. The goal during this surgery is to reduce the size of the areola (the area surrounding the nipple) so it looks balanced with the new breast size and shape.
can i also get a Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction surgery may also be combined with a breast lift to help a patient achieve the size and shape she desires. The breast reduction surgery procedure is very similar to a lift, but with the added step of removing more breast tissue in conjunction with excess skin. More information on this procedure can be found on the breast reduction page.
